Samsun, the most developed city in Black Sea region, has historical significance in terms of being a pioneer city during Turkish War of Independence. The city, that had been named as Amisos in ancient times, has the most significant commercial port in the region.

Altınkaya dam lake, flatlands of Vezir, Kunduz, Ladik and Akdağare favorable for outdoor sports; trekking, handline fishing, water sports, motor drive, grass skiing and camping activities.
