Kabul, the capital and largest city of Afghanistan, is also the administrative center of the country's Kabul Province. The city, located in the east of the country, is among the important centers not only of the country but also of Central Asia, with its population approaching 3.9 million, including those in the countryside. With its 3,500-year history, Kabul is a constantly changing city that has been the battleground of many states for its strategic location on the South and Central Asian trade routes.
It is known that the city was founded around 1500 BC. It became the most important city of Central Asia in the 6th and 7th centuries. In the 13th century, the Mongol ruler Genghis Khan captured the city. In 1504, the founder of the Indo-Turkish Empire, Babur, took Kabul and made it the capital of his state. The city remained under the rule of the Indo-Turkish Empire until it was taken by Iranian ruler Nadir Shah in 1738. In 1747, Ahmed Shah Abdali establishes the first independent Afghan state in the region. Kabul was captured by the British twice in the 19th century. The Russian occupation in 1978 and the US occupation in 2001 are among the recent developments.

One of the places to visit in Kabul is the Tomb of Babur Shah, the founder of the Mughal Empire. Located on the banks of the Kabul River, this area draws attention with its greenery. In addition, there are the historical Gardens of Babylon around the tomb. The planning of the gardens belonged to Babylon and was included in the Baburname. Babylon's wish was to be buried in these gardens.
Another highlight is the Darul Aman Palace. The palace, which is 16 km away from the city center, is now in ruins. It was built in the early 1920s by King Emanullah Khan to modernize Afghanistan. It was planned to move the parliament here in the future, but as a result of the Islamist uprisings in the country, Emanullah could not continue with his reforms. The palace, which has been subjected to many attacks throughout history, has been heavily damaged in the latest Taliban attacks. Darul Aman Palace, built in European style with neoclassical architecture, is worth seeing.
The archaeological museum, called the Kabul Museum or the Afghan National Museum, is located 9 km southwest of the city centre. The museum was established in 1922 during the rule of Afghan Emir Emanullah Khan. It has become one of the most important museums of Central Asia, with artifacts brought from all over the country.
Abdulrahman Mosque, also known as the Great Mosque, is one of the largest mosques in Afghanistan. The mosque, which has a capacity of 10,000 people, has 14 domes and 2 minarets. The mosque, which has a madrasah inside, also has a library with 150,000 collections.
Another mosque you must see is the Id Gah Mosque, the second largest mosque in Kabul. This beige mosque was built by Babur. Its courtyard, also known as Id Gah Square, can accommodate a large crowd.
Kabul Zoo is one of the places that should be added to your trip. The zoo, which was opened in 1967 on the banks of the Kabul River, is home to more than 100 animals.
Bala Hisar is a castle whose construction dates back to around the 5th century AD. It is located south of the modern city centre, behind the Kuh-e-Sherdarwaza Mountain. The fort, whose walls are very high and thick, starts from Mount Kuh-e-Sherdarwaza and extends to the river.
