Taking place in the UNESCO's World Heritage List and located in Selçuk County of Izmir, Ephesus is an impressive site visited by thousands of tourists each year. Establishment of Ephesus dates back to 6000 B.C., to Neolithic age. 

Being the capital of Asian province during the period of Roman Empire, Ephesus was an important city of commerce and politics. Influenced by Hellenism, the city also embodied the Temple of Artemis, one of the 7 wonders of ancient period. Unfortunately, today there're only a few columns left from the Temple of Artemis.

It's believed that Mary, mother of Jesus has lived her last days and died in the House of the Virgin Mary located on Mount Koressos near Ephesus. Acknowledged as a pilgrimage place by Christian community, the house is stormed by visitors all year long.

Ancient city of Pergamum located in the Bergama County of Izmir, attracts many visitors from all around the world with its architectural sites and with many firsts it had gifted to humanity. Asklepion is the first place on earth where psychotherapy was practiced. Bergama where the symbol of medicine, Caduceus, and parchment, as an alternative for papyrus, was founded is also the birthplace of Galen, the father of pharmacy. Ruins of the Altar of Zeus which is exhibited in the Museum of Berlin today can be visited in the Acropolis of Bergama.   

Hustle and bustle never stops in the city center of Izmir during the day. Clock Tower, located in Konak square is acknowledged as the symbol of Izmir. Being one of the first stops of the visitors, Izmir Clock Tower is a good place to start your Must-See Places List of Izmir.

Starting from the behind of Konak Square and going all the way through Çankaya and Mezarlıkbaşı districts, Historical Bazaar of Kemeraltı is one of the most crowded places in the city with its many variety shops, mosque and synagogue.

Being one of the first places that comes to mind in Izmir when it comes to shopping; in Kemeraltı you can find many jewelry shops, antique shops, traditional ateliers, vegetable and food markets all together. Boulevard of Alsancak Kıbrıs Şehitleri, Karşıyaka Bazaar (Kemalpaşa Boulevard), Kordon, Çankaya and Basmane districts also have many shops in many different varieties.

Asansör, connecting the Karataş and Halil Rıfat Paşa districts together is preferred for having a rest with the breathtaking Izmir view. Izmir Archeology Museum -where the historical artifacts gathered from the archeological digs executed in Izmir and surroundings are exhibited- is one of the places to be visited in city center along with Izmir Ethnography Museum and Agora Archaeological Site which are also located in the same garden with Archeology Museum.

Becoming a trend in the recent years, many "Boutique Museum" are also in the lists of visitors as well as İzmirites. Radio and Democracy Museum, Joy and Caricature Museum, Ümram Baradan Game and Toy Museum, Izmir Mask Museum and Izmir Women Museum are among the Boutique Museums brought to Izmir by Konak Municipality.

Festivals, fairs and biennales hosted during different times of the year bring a heat to Izmir. Turkey's oldest fair organization Izmir International Fair is hold at the end of August each year in its new fairground. Organizations such as Izmir International Jazz Festival, Izmir International Art Festival, Izmir Short Film Festival and Izmir Improvisational Theatre Festival take place with the participation of art-lovers.

Having 629 km long coast on Aegean Sea, Izmir is a lucky city with its natural beaches and sands. Izmir has 101 km long natural beach in Dikili, Foça, Aliağa counties in the north; in Çeşme, Urla, Karaburun counties in the west and in Menderes, Seferihisar and Selçuk counties in the south. Diversities of bays and peninsulas enable the water sports.

Becoming a trademark not only in Turkey but also in international arena, Çeşme is an important tourism destination alongside with Alaçatı. Being one the racetracks with the best wind of world, Alaçatı is in an ideal location for windsurfing schools and related organizations.

Agamemnon Hot Springs located in Balçova are known worldwide due to their mentioning in the famous epic poems of Homeros. Spa holidays are quite common in Çeşme and Dikili thanks to rich geothermal resources of Izmir.

In Izmir healthy and light meals form the basis of food, offering a wide variety of options from traditional Aegean cuisine to different world cuisines.  Olive oil dishes and sea foods are among the main tastes. Aegean herbs, raisins and the freshest and best of fig are easy to find in Izmir.
