Being a settlement since the beginning of the history, Erzurum is the biggest city of the Eastern Anatolia Region. Established by the foothills of the Palandöken Mountain, Erzurum is 4th biggest city of Turkey in terms of surface area after Konya, Sivas and Ankara.

One of the first artifacts built in Anatolia, Three Cupolas (Üç Kümbetler) is one of the important artifacts of Erzurum. Predicted to be built to honor the memories of the statesmen or the important figures of the era, biggest one of these cupolas is known to be dedicated to Emir Saltuk.

Built by Emir Hoca Cemalettin Yakut in 1310 during the realm of Ilkhanid ruler Olcaytu, Yakutiye Madrasah is one of the most attractive architectural artifacts of Erzurum. Being the biggest example of closed yard-type, arcaded and vaulted Madrasah style in Anatolia, this Madrasah especially excites the interest of scholars who conduct researches in art history and architecture. 

Rüstempaşa Covered Bazaar which was built during the realm of Suleiman the Magnificent and Çobandede Bridge which was built in 1297 are among the historical places that worth visiting.

Having the climatic factors of both Black Sea Region and continental areas due to its location, Erzurum is suitable for different outdoor sports.
