Basra, located in the south of Iraq, is the country's second largest city and most important port. The island of the sailor Sinbad, one of the heroes of the Arabian Nights, is in this city. This island is located in the middle of Shattularap, where the Tigris and Euphrates rivers meet. You can see the area called Sayab's House Ruins, where the house where Bedir Şakir el Sayyab, one of the greatest poets of Arabic literature, lived. There is also a statue of the poet erected in 1972 in the city center, who translated the poems of Nazım Hikmet.
Basra Sports City has the distinction of being the largest sports complex in the Middle East. The construction of the complex, which was opened in 2013, took 4 years.
