Places to visit
Guangxiao Si, the oldest settlement in the city, Guangxiao Temple located on Guangxiao Street in Lingnan district, built by a Hindu monk in the 5th century and frequented by many Buddhists, must be seen. This is still a holy gathering place where buddhist monks preach. The Temple of the Ancestors is a historical structure built with wood, stone and metal, and is famous for its reliefs and decorations. One of the top four temples in Guangzhou, the Temple of the Six Banyan Trees was built in 537 and is considered a worldwide cultural heritage. The Sun Yat-sen Monument, whose construction was completed in 1931, was built for Sun Yat-sen, the pioneer of the Chinese democratic movement. The building, which is a good example of Chinese architecture, also has a memorial hall connected to the monument. Another landmark of Guangzhou is the 37-floor Canton Tower. You can watch panoramic city views from the tower, also known as the television and observation tower, and dine at its restaurants. The Shishi Catholic Cathedral in the city is a Roman Catholic church built in 1863. The building, which has Gothic architecture, is among the famous cathedrals of the world. Zhenhai Tower, also known as Guangzhou Museum and built in 1380, consists of 5 floors. The figures on the front of Zhenhai Fort, located at the end of the Guangzhou City Wall, give information about the life of the period when it was built. One of the oldest mosques in China, the Huaisheng Mosque is still open for worship today.
Yuntai Garden, south of Baiyun Mountain, is China's largest garden, and be sure to visit its arrangement of exotic flowers and plants, a synthesis of east and west. In the area where the garden is located, there are also historical and cultural textures such as Ram Sculpture, Zhenhai Tower, Ming Dynasty City Walls. Among the other places you can visit are the Nanyue Memorial Museum, which is the oldest and largest monumental museum in Guangzhou, where many important works of the royal are exhibited, and the Guangzhou Museum, which witnesses the city's 2000-year history.
Guangzhou also has many amusement parks where children and adults of all ages can have fun: Chimelong Paradise, Crocodile Park, Xiangjiang Safari Park, Chimelong Water Park, Ocean World and one of the three largest zoos in China, endangered animal species. Guangzhou Zoo, where it is located, is among the most important of these parks.
