Schnoorviertel, the center of Bremen, is an area with 17th and 18th century buildings. Rathaus, the local government building, is a Unesco World Heritage site and was built in 1405 in Gothic style. The Old Town, Altstadt, is located around the Weser River in the southwest, while the Wallgraben, the medieval city walls, defines the northeastern boundary.
Marktplatz, the first residential area of the city, is the area that starts with the historical market place and continues until Schnoor. The Bremen Senate is located in the region where the buildings built with Renaissance architecture are located.
