Mongolia's capital and largest settlement, Ulan Bator, is the country's cultural, industrial and financial center, located in a valley on the Tuul River in central northern Mongolia. The city, which means Red Bahadır in Mongolian, is the center of the country's road network, through which the Russian Trans-Siberian Railway and the Chinese railway line pass. The history of Ulan Bator, which dates back to 12,000 years after the first settlement, was dominated by the Great Hun Empire, Apar, Göktürk, Uyghur and Karahitay states, as states of Mongolian origin, until the 12th century. After Genghis Khan, who founded the first Mongolian State in 1206, and the regime change in the Soviet Union, communism in the country ended in the 1990s and Mongolia declared its independence in 1912.

The 26-meter Buddha Statue in Gandan Monastery, one of the most important Lama centers in Central Asia, the Genghis Khan statue on the front of the parliament building in Sükhbaatar Square, a traditional Buddhist architectural example built in 1908 and a rich collection of Buddhist artworks. The famous Choijin Lama Temple is the first historical building to be seen in the city.
The remains in Bayanzag, the second largest dinosaur finds site in the world, and the Natural History Museum, which has a rich collection of dinosaur eggs, stuffed and mummified animals, are among the first places to be seen in Ulan Bator. Bogd Khan Winter Palace and Museum, where Buddha statues, stuffed wild animals, paintings and silk embroidered fabrics are exhibited, one of the rare structures that were not destroyed during the Soviet period, the National History Museum with many information and documents about the historical past of the country, the Modern Museum with the best examples of traditional Mongolian art. Among the other museums you can visit are the Arts Museum and the Toy Museum, where Mongolian toys and giant puzzles are found.
When you come to this geography, it is useful to see the surroundings of Ulan Bator, because this is the purest Turkish lands. Orhun Valley, which is 370 km away from the city, where the ruins of the Göktürks are located, is on the Unesco World Heritage List. The Orkhon Inscriptions, consisting of six inscribed obelisks from the era of Bilge Khan, must be seen. Again, the Erdenezuu Temple, which you can visit in the Orhun Valley, and the turtle sculptures, which are considered sacred to the Mongols, are worth seeing. If you want to go on a journey into the depths of history, you can join the tours organized in the Gobi Desert, which is the only region on earth that contains fossilized dinosaur skeletons and eggs, surrounded by mountain ranges.
Peace Boulevard and Sükhbaatar Square in the city center of Ulan Bator, decorated with modern buildings, hotels, entertainment centers and cafes, form the heart of the city. In these squares where government buildings, banks and museums are located, festivals, traditional games such as horse riding, wrestling and arrow shooting, traditional dance and music performances of Lama priests and Hoton Turks are staged.

In recent years, Ulan Bator has restaurants that offer world cuisine, mainly Italian, French and Korean, as well as many establishments with local flavors. Traditional Ulan Bator cuisine has been shaped by the influence of nomadic culture and mostly consists of horse meat, mutton and dough. Şölte khool made with mutton, pasta and vegetable broth, mutton ravioli buuz, and mantu, a type of bread, are the main dishes and the most consumed beverage is kumiss.
