Transportation from City Center to Santander Airport
Officially known as Seve Ballesteros–Santander Airport (SDR), it is the only airport in the Cantabria region of Spain and the city of Santander, the capital of the region.
The most economical option to reach the airport from the city center is to use shuttle buses. These buses are operated by the ALSA bus company. Buses depart from the main bus station in Santander city center every 30 minutes and go to the airport.
The first time leaves at 06.40 and the last time at 23.00. The journey takes about 15 minutes. You pay the ticket price in cash to the driver on the bus. With the buses of the same company, you can come directly to the bus stop inside the airport from nearby big cities such as Bilbao, Gijón, Oviedo and Laredo. Check out Alsa's official website for information about both shuttle buses and intercity buses.
One of the most comfortable ways to make this journey is to take a taxi. The average distance between the city center and the airport is seven kilometers and the journey takes about 12 minutes. You can call any taxi on the street, or you can ask the reception of your hotel to call a taxi for you.
Taxis charge additional fees for your bags and your pet, in addition to the journey cost. They also apply a night schedule on holidays and in the evening. Be prepared for all this fee schedule. Otherwise, you may experience stress due to confusion.
If you are going to the airport with a rental car and you are going to deliver the vehicle there, we recommend that you plan your time well, especially during Christmas time and high season. On such crowded dates, there may be long queues from time to time, as car rental and delivery is too much.
In order not to be affected by the chaos at the airport on days when the arrivals and departures of tourist groups are busy, be at the airport at least one hour earlier than you planned.
