Transportation from the City Center to Mashhad Airport
Known for being the holiest city in Iran, Mashhad is also the capital of the Razavi Khorasan region. There are many religious, historical and cultural touristic spots to visit in Mashhad, and the climate of the city is like a cool spring throughout the year.
Famous for its large parks, world-famous Imam Reza shrine, elegant jewellery, perfumes and saffron, Mashhad is a place worth seeing in Iran. And while you're in Mashhad, don't leave without eating the famous cello and bahtiyar kebabs made with special spices.
Martyr Nejad Airport, the main airport of Mashhad, is also the third largest airport in Iran. Metro, bus, taxi or private transfer is used to reach the airport, which is six and a half kilometers from the city center.
Getting to the airport from Mashhad city center by taxi takes 15 minutes in normal traffic. As you can ask the hotel to call a taxi, taking a taxi from the street is a very common method. However, be careful to give the driver full money because instead of giving change on the airport route, they may consider this amount as a tip. You can also book a private transfer to Mashhad Airport from your hotel or a reliable tour company. If you tell your flight number and time to your transfer vehicle, it will take you to the airport on time.
You can also use a bus to go from the city center to Mashhad Airport. However, since the Persian alphabet is used in Iran, you may have difficulty understanding bus routes and stop names. For this reason, you should definitely get help from someone who knows or your hotel and make sure that you are at the right bus stop.
Among all means of transportation, the metro is the safest and easiest way to get to the airport from the city center of Mashhad. The metro, which runs between 06:00 and 22:00, goes from the city center to the airport with a single line. Mashhad Airport is located at the last stop of the number one metro line.
You can get on the metro with a one-time ticket or prepaid transportation cards, Zaer Card or Mancard. You can also use the Zaer Card, which can be loaded from TVM vending machines or the phone application, on buses.
