Located on the northwestern part of Switzerland, Basel is one of the most well-developed and prosperous cities in the world. Located at the triangle between Germany, France and Switzerland, the city is home for many foreign workers. With the population of over 200.000 people, Basel is the third most populous city in Switzerland after Zurich and Genova. Basel, the city that is vitalized by Rhine River is separated into two parts; Grossbasel (Great Basel) and Kleinbasel (Little Basel). These two parts are connected by five different bridges, among them are Rhein Bridge (Rheinbrücke). Constructed in 1244, this bridge is one of the oldest architectural structures in the city.

Accommodating the largest chemical corporations in the world, Basel is also referred as the city of fairs. One of the leading cities in Europe in terms of cultural and art activities, Basel is attracting many visitors to its, nearly, 40 museums.

The Gates to the Walled City is a complex of walls, sets and fortified structures that were constructed for the enhancement of the security of the city. Among them are Spalentor, St. Albantor and St. Johanns-Tor Gates. The area should be discovered by history enthusiasts and similarly, Augusta Raurica, the archeological park and open-air museum, can be visited.

Basel is contributing the art scene of Europe with over 40 museums. Fine Arts Museum (Kunstmuseum), Beyeler Foundation (Fondation Beyeler), The Museum Tinguely, Museum of Antiquities (Antikenmuseum), Museum of Cultures (Museum der Kulturen), Basel Historical Museum and the Museum of Pharmacy History are the most well-known ones.

Referred also as the city of fountains, Basel is filled with various fountains, that were constructed in many different eras, in every corner Gemsberg, Holbein, Cathedral Mount, Augustiner, Pisoni and Tinguely are the most well-known ones.

How to Reach to Basel

In Turkey, direct flights from Istanbul Atatürk Airport to Basel are operated 7 days a week, while, there are seasonal flights from Antalya and Izmir Adnan Menderes Airports.
