Transportation from Fukuoka Airport to City Center
Fukuoka International Airport is known as one of the rare airports in Japan so close to the city center. The airport is only 2.6 km from Hakata Station, the largest train transfer hub in Kyushu, and only 4.6 km from the center of Tenjin district. Therefore, it is quite easy to get to and from this airport.
The fastest and most economical way to go to Fukuoka Airport is to use the subway. Kuko, the airport train, takes only 2 stops and 5 minutes to Hakata Station, and 5 stops to Tenjin Station, which takes 11 minutes. The Kuko Train runs every 4 to 8 minutes between 05:30 and 00:25 daily.
The Nishi-Nippon Railroad company operates a bus between the Fukuoka Airport terminal building, Hakata Station and Tenjin. This bus with A on the window takes 18 minutes to arrive at Hakata Bus Terminal, while buses to Tenjin leave their passengers at the 7A bus station in front of Tenjin Core Shopping Center. These buses also have a large A on the window and take about 33 minutes to reach Tenjin.
Another company, Nishi-Tetsu, also operates a bus between Fukuoka Airport and the city center. The flights start at 07:30 in the morning and continue until 21:00. Buses departing from stop number 2 reach the city center in approximately 20 minutes.
If you want to take a taxi, you should use the taxi stands right outside the terminal building. There are always taxis at these stops. If you want to use the regular taxi, large taxi and luxury taxi stands lined up side by side, you can leave the airport by taking the next one. Make sure you can provide the full address of your destination in written form, as most taxi drivers only speak Japanese. You can easily bypass the language barrier using the Uber app. So you can pay for the trip even less than by taxi.
It's always a good idea to arrange a private transfer from the airport, too. Before starting your journey, you can request a private transfer from a professional website or from your hotel. Thus, thanks to the door-to-door service you will receive, you will reach your hotel without having to search for an address.
