Transportation from Tijuana Airport to City Center
Tijuana, the largest city in the Baja California region, located on Mexico's border with the United States (USA), is a very popular destination for tourists from San Diego. Bustling with its lively nightlife, restaurants and boutiques, the city is also a frequent flight transfer point used by Latin American travelers who do not want to transfer from the USA.
While Tjiuana Airport is 1.5 km away from the Otay border gate between the USA and Mexico, it is 10 km away from the San Ysidro border gate and the Zona Centro city center of Tijuana.
Although the most economical means of transportation from Tijuana city center to the airport is the bus, it is not the fastest method because it can take over 40 minutes to get to Tijuana Airport by bus. You can reach the airport by blue and white buses from Plaza Rio or Centro.
Taking a taxi from Tijuana to the airport is quite expensive, but it is a fast and comfortable option. It is possible to take a taxi from any street, but since the security is not very high in Tijuana, it is more logical to call a vehicle from a known company or a phone application such as Uber.
Another taxi app that works similarly to Uber is Rideyellow. If you register after downloading the application and enter your address, you can call a vehicle directly to that point.
You can find buses called ABC to the airport from Baja California's main bus station or Zona Viva stop. Also, there are passengers arriving from Tijuana city center as well as passengers boarding from San Diego to Tijuana Airport to go to different parts of Latin America.
You can go to Tijuana Airport by taking the shuttles of Volaris from the Amtrak stop called 1050 Kettner Blvd in San Diego city center. Note that your US visa must be multiple entry for this.
