Transportation from Ponta Delgada Airport to the City Center
Ponta Delgada, also known as João Paulo II Airport, is the main airport of the Azores Archipelago, an autonomous region of Portugal. The Azores Archipelago consists of nine islands and Ponta Delgada Airport is located on the largest of these islands, the island of Sao Miguel.
The most economical option to go to the city center, namely Ponta Delgada, is to use the airport bus service. This service, called ANC Aerobus, departs from the airport, drops passengers at 22 stops in between, and finally reaches the Avenida Dom João III stop in the center. This journey takes 15 minutes under normal traffic conditions.
Buses leave every 40 minutes. The flights start at 05:00 in the morning and end at 22:00 at night. You can buy the necessary ticket for the journey from the box office on the arrival floor or from the driver on the bus.
For more detailed information or for group reservations, you can use the following contact information:

Your other option is to take a taxi, as there are no transportation apps like Uber on the island. You can take the next taxi from the stop just outside the arrivals floor. Most of the taxi drivers are fluent in English. You can find a taxi at the stop 24/7. The journey is about 6 km and takes an average of 10 minutes.
If you want to see the sights on the island of Sao Miguel with your own rhythm without joining a tour, the most logical thing to do is to rent a car. Thus, you will be able to handle the transfer from Ponta Delgada Airport to the city center.
Here you can find offices of both local companies and international and reliable companies such as Europcar, Hertz or Sixt. If you rent a car here, it will be waiting for you right outside the terminal building.
You can check the full list of car rental companies on the official airport site.
