Transportation from the City Center to Asturias Airport
Asturias Airport (OVD) is the only international airport of the Principality of Asturia, an autonomous region of Spain. The airport serves multiple cities, with its location right in the middle of Avilés, Gijón and Oviedo. The region of Asturias attracts both local and foreign tourists with its many sights such as Mirador del Fitu, Bufones de Pría, Calle de Gascona, Senda del Oso, Gijon Aquarium.
You can go to the airport by buses departing from Avilés, Gijón and Oviedo. Some of these lines also stop in Piedras Blancas and Salinas. You can check which line you will take, the timetable and fares of the buses on the website of the bus company serving in the city.
Although transportation applications such as Uber and Cabify are widely used in other cities of Spain, this service is not yet in use in and around Asturias. That's why your only taxi option is the taxis in the city. You can call any taxi from the road or go to a stop and take the next taxi.
Taxis in Aviles, Gijón, Oviedo and Piedras Blancas go to the airport with fixed prices and use taximeters from other places. Taxis open night tariffs after 22:00 at night until 07:00 in the morning, after 15:00 on Saturdays and on all holidays.
Do not start the journey without asking the taxi driver how much it will cost on average. Taxis generally take cash payments.
If you have rented a car and will deliver your car at the airport and continue your flight, it is useful to plan your time well.
Delivery processes at car rental companies may take longer, especially during holidays such as Christmas. If you encounter such a problem, you may consider arriving at the airport earlier than necessary in order not to delay your flight.
