Transportation from Lusaka City Center to Kenneth Kaunda International Airport
You have two options to reach Lusaka International Airport from the city center of Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, either by taking a taxi or booking a shuttle.
You can arrange both at the reception of your hotel, or you can take authorized taxis whose phone numbers are listed on the airport website. The road to the airport, which is approximately 20 km away, takes an average of 30 minutes.
Some international tourism companies also have private transfer services for individuals or groups. You can purchase transfer services from this type of tourism offices at the hotel you are staying at or at the most central points of the city.
Among the public transportation alternatives, unfortunately, there is no vehicle option that goes directly to the airport. If you are not staying in the city center, you can also use the minibuses departing from the Chelstone stop between the city center and the airport. However, it should be said that public transportation vehicles are not recommended for foreign tourists.
Transportation from Lilongwe International Airport to the City Center
Lilongwe is the capital of Malawi and the second largest city with a population of 900,000. Near Malawi's border with Zambia, whose name means "Warm Heart of Africa", Lilongwe is so green that travelers sometimes say they don't realize they're in a city because the buildings in downtown Lilongwe are surrounded by vast green spaces and trees.
Lilongwe Nature Sanctuary divides the capital into the old city and the new city. While the old city formed Lilongwe Village and its surroundings, the new city, which is today's city center, was established after the capital was moved from Zomba to Lilongwe.
The roads of the new city, also known as the Capital City, are in very good condition compared to other African countries and there is no traffic problem. In addition, Lilongwe, which is much safer than the capitals of the surrounding countries, is a city where travelers feel comfortable and foreigners enjoy living with its good infrastructure, hotels, bars and restaurants.
Lilongwe Airport, also known as Kaumu International Airport, is located 20 minutes' drive north of the old city. If you haven't arranged a private transfer in advance, the only way to get from the airport to Lilongwe is to take a taxi.
There are usually enough taxis at Lilongwe Airport, but you should definitely talk about the price you will pay to go to the city, because the drivers may ask for more money when getting out of the taxi. Taking a taxi to Capital City is more affordable than going to the old city.
You can also request a transfer from your hotel to the city center from Lilongwe Airport, but this option is usually more expensive than a taxi. Local people, who go to Lilongwe from the airport with their own vehicles, sometimes offer to take foreigners to the city if they have space in their cars.
