You can pay the taxi driver in cash, either in US dollars or in Dominican pesos, but since the fixed rate is set in US dollars, the taxi driver's own exchange rate may be lower than you expect when you pay in pesos. Also, taxis at the airport only take (maximum) 3 passengers.
