Ganja, the second largest city of Azerbaijan and the busiest point in the western part of the country, is a city located 360 km west of the capital Baku and divided into two sides by the Ganja Stream. There are old buildings, monuments and mausoleums from various periods in Ganja, which is a very important center in terms of history, culture and economy.

Ganja, where the settlement began in the 5th century, remained under the rule of various nations throughout the Arab, Sedadi, Ildenizli and Middle Ages. The city, which experienced Mongolian, Ilkhanid and Timur occupations after 1231, entered the domination of Iran in the 17th century and remained under the rule of the Ganja Khanate and then the Russians. The city, which became the capital of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918, handed over this task to Baku in the 20th century. With the independence of Azerbaijan in 1991, it became the country's second largest city.
Places to visit
In Ganja, the hometown of the poet Nizami, there are the Poet Nizami Sculptures depicting scenes from Nizami's works and the Poet Nizami Mausoleum. The Government Building, which is also the first parliament building of Azerbaijan, and the Khan Bagi Park, one of the oldest parks in the Caucasus, built during the Javad Khan period, and Tatlar Masjid with its magnificent towers are among the places to be seen.
Although Ganja, which is a living history, was damaged during the occupations, there are still many bridges, castles, mosques, madrasahs, baths and caravanserais in the city. Cuma Mosque, which is one of the most important mosques of the city, Sheikh İbrahim Tomb, Red Hacalı Mosque, Ozan Mosque, Bala Bağban Mosque, Şerefhanlı Mosque, Şahsevan Mosque, Darus Sultan Mosque and Imamzade Complex are some of the historical buildings you can visit.
Bottle House, which is a very interesting structure in Ganja and was built in 1967, is a cute structure with oil-painted portraits on the roof porch and inside the eaves. The house, which consists of approximately 50,000 glass bottles, was built by Ibrahim Jafarov in memory of his brother who disappeared at the front during World War II. You can visit the Porcelain Museum, which was used as a bathhouse in the past and has been turned into a museum today, and the Local Area Museum, where more than 30 thousand artifacts reflecting the history of Ganja are exhibited. The Academy Museum on Atatürk Street, one of the biggest streets in the city center, is located in İ. Mammadov Turkish House Museum, History Museum, Mir Jalal Pasayev Museum and Republic Museum are also museums worth seeing. In addition to these, there is a museum named after Nizami, a fine arts gallery and a poetry theater in Ganja.
Gölköy National Park, which stretches along the green valley near Kepez Peak of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains, is the first national park of Azerbaijan. Around the lake, there are forests covered with oak, hornbeam beech trees and fruit trees where wild animals live. With a depth of about 100 meters, the lake resembles a large aquarium with extraordinary fish fauna.

The basic delicacies of Azerbaijani cuisine are vegetables, spices, meat, fish and rice. Han pilaf, suyudlu pilaf, vegetable-roasted pilaf, nardancha pilaf, fisincan pilaf, Ali-musamba pilaf, piti, jizbiz, meatballs or piece of bozbas, bozartma, steamed beef, inside the sheet, stuffed eggplant-tomato-pepper with leaf-cabbage, Düsbere, kutab with meat or vegetables, gurza and dried hingal are among the most consumed local dishes.
