Transportation from Belize Airport to City Center
Belize Airport, officially known as Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport, is the only international airport in Belize, a Caribbean country. Tourists who come here especially aim to experience the Belize Barrier Reef, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List and the largest reef system in the Northern Hemisphere, and other natural beauties.
You have only two options to get to the city center from Belize Airport. One of them is shuttle services and the other is taxis. If you want to use the shuttle option to go to the city center, you should first contact your hotel and ask if they provide a free or paid shuttle.
Many hotels provide this service for a fee. After that, the only thing left is to find the sign with your name after exiting the airport gate and get into the vehicle shown by your driver. It's a good idea to plan ahead, calculating that passport control and baggage handling may take a little more than an hour in high season.
There is another very important detail that you should not forget here; To use the shuttles, you must have made a reservation before you land at the airport, because legally only taxis have the right to pick up passengers from the airport without reservation.
If you do not have a shuttle reservation or if you did not make it intentionally, you only have a taxi option. When you exit the arrivals floor, bypass the shuttle drivers waiting to pick up their passengers and turn left, and you will see the taxis lined up at the stop. Even if you don't do anything else when you pass the shuttles and head towards them, a taxi driver will come towards you.
Since there are no taximeters in the taxis here, you should definitely talk about the price before boarding. You can tell by the green plates that the taxi you are taking is a real taxi. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the city center, which is 15 km away.
Another option is to rent a car. In Belize, where taxi prices are not very affordable, it may be a much more economical option to travel by car instead of seeing the sights by using a taxi. You can see the airport car rental offices when you exit the arrivals floor exit door and walk to the parking lot right in front of you.
