Transportation from Managua Augusto C. Sandino International Airport to the City Center
If you are coming to Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, on an international flight, you will enter the country from Augusto C. Sandino International Airport. In fact, Managua does not have a single city center, but there are also buses you can choose from Managua Airport to the city center, apart from taxis and private cars.
Although a taxi is not very cheap in Nicaragua, it is one of the easiest ways to get to the city from Managua Airport. You can stop a taxi passing by by exiting the international terminal and crossing the main road called Carretera Norte.
If you tell the taxi driver that you want to go to Plaza de Las Victorias, you can easily reach the city center of Managua. But in Managua, taxis try to charge more than tourists. That's why bargaining can work. You can take a taxi from Managua Airport to the city center just outside the arrivals terminal without walking to the main road, but the taxi fare is slightly higher than outside.
City buses are the most economical means of transportation from the airport to the city center of Managua, but buses in Nicaragua are not very clean and comfortable, and they are not always on time.
To get to the city center from Managua Airport by bus, you have to walk to the opposite side of the main road after leaving the terminal where international flights arrive. You have to be very careful when crossing the street, but once you cross it, walk to the bus stop at the entrance of Las Mercedes Hotel.
From here you can take bus 266 and head south of the city. Tell the driver that you will get off at the “El Nuevo Diario” stop so that he will let you know when he arrives. It is possible to get to the Metrocentro station, that is, to reach the city center, by taking the bus numbered 114 or 120 passing through the El Nuevo Diario stop. On all buses it is better to either have full money or pay in small notes. Metrocentro stop is located two blocks from Plaza de Las Victorias Square, which is considered the city center of Managua.
To go to the city center with a private transfer from Managua Airport, it is a very comfortable option to make a pre-travel reservation from major tour sites such as Viator. When you exit the terminal, you will be greeted with a banner with your name and you can reach the city center or your hotel by safe vehicles.
